Our patients often ask us questions prior to their procedures – so we have compiled the most frequently asked questions and sorted them by category to help answer any questions that you may have before visiting one of our facilities.

What to bring the day of surgery

Please bring all insurance cards, picture identification, and information with you.

Please bring your healthcare Power of Attorney and/or Guardianship papers (if applicable) day of surgery.

Please leave all jewelry and valuables at home (including rings, watches, necklaces, earrings, and money). While we do our best to safeguard your belongings, they are best secured at home.

All patients of child-bearing age who have the potential for pregnancy, will be expected to provide a urine sample for pregnancy testing prior to surgery.

NASC is located at 15 Riverside St. in Nashua, NH. Enter the building through the front entrance and our front desk will greet you.

Yes. The One Medical Passport System used by NASC is secure and must be completed to include your comprehensive clinical data as soon as possible. You will get a call from the facility providing the website and to review the provided information. It is a one-time registration and will need to be updated for any subsequent procedures.
Patients should attempt to complete online registration themselves. If you are having difficulty or do not have access to a computer, please call for the assistance.

Wear loose comfortable clothing, you will receive more specific instructions from our Nurse prior to the procedure.

Please check with your insurance carrier to review your benefits and determine if pre-authorization is required. If you need assistance with this, the surgical center billing department will be happy to help you. Please bring your insurance card for all procedures.

If you are having surgery under anesthesia, with the exception of local anesthesia, you cannot drive, and must be accompanied home by a responsible adult. This policy is for your safety, and is strictly adhered to. You cannot take a taxi home, unless accompanied by a responsible adult.

Surgical procedures are not without some discomfort; however, we will attempt to make you as comfortable as possible prior to discharge and provide instructions on how to manage pain discomfort at home.

Anesthesia administration is procedure specific.

Our patients and their one responsible caregiver are welcome into the building. The responsible caregiver is welcome to wait in our waiting area; however, they are welcome to leave the facility (if patient is age 18 and older) and a Nurse will call them closer to the time of discharge. A minor must have a legal guardian be present in the facility during the entire stay.

All patients of child-bearing age who have the potential for pregnancy, will be expected to provide a urine sample for pregnancy testing prior to surgery.

Your surgeon will evaluate your healing and advise you about returning to your usual activities after surgery.

Glasses are preferred to be worn day of surgery. If you do not have glasses, please bring a contact case as the contacts will need to be removed before any procedures requiring anesthesia or for any eye procedures.

Please wear your hearing aids to the Surgical Center. Just before surgery, one or both hearing aids will be removed prior to surgery. Please bring a case to store your hearing aids while in operating room. If you do not have one, a case will be provided for you. Your hearing aid/s will be kept safe and returned to you before you leave NASC.

It is procedure dependent. Prepare to remove your dentures and we will notify you in pre-op if the dentures need to be removed for the procedure.

The Driver will be notified of the approximate time of discharge. A nurse will call closer to the time of discharge to provide a more accurate time for pickup and to review discharge instructions. The Driver is expected to be available when you are ready for discharge.

Only patients not receiving oral or IV sedation medication are permitted to drive themselves home following surgery. Patients receiving any sedation or anesthesia must have a responsible caregiver bring / drive them home. It is illegal to drive while under the influence of sedating medication.

Taxi is permitted as a mode of transportation ONLY if you are accompanied by another adult. The Taxi driver is not considered your personal responsible adult on the day of surgery.

If you have a Power of Attorney document for healthcare, activated or not, NASC would appreciate a copy for your records here prior to surgery. If you do not have a DPOAH document, it is not necessary to obtain one for the surgery. However, NASC does offer the forms on its website if you or your family are interested for your future needs.

Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC) are facilities where surgeries that do not require a hospital inpatient admission are performed. They provide a safe, cost-effective, caring and convenient environment that is less stressful than a large hospital environment.

Surgery center staff will call you 1 to 2 business days prior to your surgery to review arrival time and instructions. If you have not received a call by 2:00pm on the business day prior to surgery, please telephone the surgical center to ask about your arrival time.

Please call both your surgeon’s office and the surgical center as soon as possible. If you call after hours, please leave a message on our answering machine and an answering service will take your message at the surgeon’s office.
